<br />Councilmember Cook: <br />Councilmember Elvig: <br />Councilmember Jeffrey: <br />Councilmember Olson: <br />Councilmember Pearson: <br />Councilmember Strommen: <br /> <br />aye <br />absent <br />absent <br />aye <br />aye <br />aye <br /> <br />Motion carried. <br /> <br />Case #7: Report from the Personnel Committee <br /> <br />1) Authorization to Hire Paid On-Call Fire Fighters <br /> <br />Human Resources Manager Reed Kone stated the Personnel Committee made a motion to <br />recommend the City Council authorize the following six individuals be hired as on-call <br />firefighters: Carey Schiferli, Michael Nielson, Donald Yamauchi, Robert Tiegen, Jacob Hanson, <br />and David Weigman. These individuals would be hired at an hourly wage of $12.50 and would <br />begin employment on November 29, 2006. <br /> <br />Councilmember Cook stated all the above individuals have completed the background check and <br />medical exams and went through the preliminary testing. The hiring of these firefighters will <br />bring the City up to the recommended 40 firefighters. <br /> <br />Motion by Councilmember Cook, seconded by Councilmember Pearson, to ratify the <br />recommendation of the Personnel Committee in Case No. 1 and adopt Resolution #06-11 366 to <br />hire the following six individuals as paid on-call fire fighters: Carey Schiferli, Michael Nielson, <br />Donald Yamauchi, Robert Tiegen, Jacob Hanson, and David Weigman. The individuals would <br />be hired at an hourly wage of$12.50 and would begin employment on November 29,2006. <br /> <br />Further discussion: Mayor Gamec asked if any of these firefighters being hired are from Bums <br />Township. Fire Chief Kapler replied none of these firefighters are from Burns Township. There <br />will be a second group of firefighters presented for approval on December 12 that will be <br />primarily for Fire Station No. 3 located in Bums Township. Mr. Kapler explained Carey <br />Schiferli and Michael Nielson are City employees. This hiring comes with the support of the <br />Public Works Director and Police Chief. This is another example of how staff works together to <br />share resources. <br /> <br />Motion carried. V oting Yes: Mayor Gamec, Councilmembers Cook, Pearson, Olson, and <br />Strommen. Voting No: None. Absent: Councilmembers Elvig and Jeffrey. <br /> <br />2) Consider Reclassification of the ZoninglRecycling Coordinator Position <br /> <br />Human Resources Manager Reed Kone stated the City's Environmental Specialist, Bruce Bacon, <br />is retiring from the City of Ramsey after 29 years of service. Staff is recommending that the <br />Zoning/Recycling Coordinator position be reclassified to Environmental Coordinator in order to <br />include the duties of the outgoing Environmental Specialist.
