LIONS

As expected, our mystery night on ~arch 5th
was a fun time. Everyone met at Jimmy B's to
board a bus headed for an unknown destination.
After making 63 turns, 29 stops, crossing 2
railroad tracks and hitting every bump in the
road, we landed at McGuire's Inn in Arden Hill.
After having a delicious dinner, and enter-
tainment by Limar and Christian, we headed
home.
We are planning again this year to have a
professional boxing match to raise money for
community projects. We haven't set a date yet,
but, keep your eye on future issues of the
Resident for the time and place.
As you might know, we are always looking for
good members. If you would like to be more
involved in your community, please feel free
to attend one of our meetings to find out more
about us. You could also call Lion Brad Dahl
at 427-5778 or Lion Bob Muller at Bob's Super
Valu. Our meeting place is Jimmy B's, every
first and third Wednesdays at 7pm.
SNOW-RAMS

It looks as though the snowmobiling season
is cut short this year with our spring-like
weather. This will at least curtail some of
the complaints received by our local police
department of violations by snowmobilers in
Ramsey. We urge you as responsible snowmobi-
lers and parents to please respect the rights
of others and obey the local snowmobile ordi-
nances in Ramsey. One of our club's objectives
is to promote, maintain and retain the
right to use snowmobiles in Ramsey and other
areas.
Our annual winter picnic proved to be a
fun-filled event for appro~matelv 18 families.
It was held on Sunday, February 13, at Twin
Lake. Competitive events were held for the
children as well as the adults. It was a
toss up as to who had the most fun. Ribbons
were presented to the winners in each class.
We are planning our spring and summer pic-
nics and campouts now. If you are interested
in joining, our monthly meetings are held at
7:30 p.m. the first Monday of the month at
Jimmy B's. You can also contact Jim Wharton
at 421-9539 or Dianne Johnson at 421-7636
for further information.
RAMSEY ELEM.

Mrs. Hancock's third grade class presented
a dental health play to the students of Ramsey
School Everyone in the class was involved in
the performance. They made most of the cos-
tumes and memorized all their lines. The play
was a learning experience for those students
giving the playas well as for those in the
audience. The play concluded a three week
dental health unit taught during February,
"Dental Health Month."
NORTH SUBURBAN
COMMUNITY BAND

The purpose of this article is to provide
background on the North Suburban Community
Band and to encourage Ramsey residents to join
our group.
The N.S.C.B. was first conceived back in
early 1981 by our current and first President,
Bob Muscovitz. Bob called a group of music
directors in the area to get their input, and
together they helped form and start the re-
hearsals of the N.S.C.B..
Rehearsals began in late April, 1981,
with our first concert held at St. Stephen's
Fun Days in Anoka. As the summer progressed,
we played concerts in the park, rode on a flat
bed truck in Blaine's Blazin'4th Parade, and
played two concerts in Anoka. Fall of '81
found the band playing with the Anoka Chapter
of the Barber Shop Quartets of America, and
for the National Police Dog trials at Goodrich
Field in Anoka. The band also played exchange
concerts with other bands in the area.
Fall of '82 found us playing Christmas Con-
certs at Apache Plaza and Brookdale. We played
at the University of Minnesota for the girl's
basketball games and Snowflake Day's in Coon
Rapids.
The band rehearses every Monday evening at
Coon Rapids Junior High from 7:30 to 9:30 in
the band room. We average 40 to 50 members
per rehearsal and welcome any adult who is
interested in rekindling his/her interest in
playing in a band. Some instruments are fur-
nished.
The hardest part of becoming a N.S.C.B.
member is getting out the old dusty instrument
and coming to the first rehearsal. After that
it's just plain fun. Please join us. We'd
love to have you. For further information
call :
Bob Muscovitz, President 421-2103
Clay McCartney, Director 755-3998
~ary Ann Nelson, Membership 421-0798
Anyone interested in having our band play
for a function, please contact Bob Muscovitz
or Clay McCartney. The band is always looking
for events at which to play.
We also have a Dixieland Band, a German Band
and a Clarinet Quartet that will perform at
functions.
RAMSEY ADVISORY COUNCIL

It has been said that "Nothing is so con-
stant as change." The price of gasoline, the
mortgage rate, State and Federal funding for
our schools, etc., are but a few.
Ramsey School Advisory Council members have
had great concern regarding some of the chan-
ges necessary due to fun dings for our school
and community education programs. In an ef-
fort to better use our own time and talents,
we ourselves have made some changes. Three
major sub committees work in the areas of:
Program and Finance, Volunteer Programs, and
Community Involvement. We have a Special
Events Committee which handles Halloween,
Santa's Brunch, Fun Day, Ice Skate Social,
etc.,. The people on this last committee do
not have to be Advisory Council members. We
are all citizens concerned about helping to
keep education for all in our community, ~he
best possible.
On Tuesday, February 22, 1983, Wendy Studer,
our Chairperson, Darlene Boji - Chairperson

Elect, and Pat Eggers - Treasurer, presented
Mayor Tom Gamec with an "I support Community
Education" shirt and button. All other City
Council members were also given buttons pro-
moting Community Education. These shirts,
$5.00 (available in children and adult sizes)
and buttons and decals $1.00, are available
in the Community Education Office at Ramsey
School, any time the office is open. We apprec-
ciate your support.
Some of our funds have helped the Kinship
Program, School Lycums, the purchase of Por-
table staging, an 8mm sound projector, and
mostr recently, a printer for Ramsey School's
Apple II Computer. During February, all Ram-
sey School students had 'hands on' experience
with the Apple II tomputer. They found this
experience delicious.
Our meetings are the second Tuesday of the
month, and are open to all., Please come and
join with us. Our goal - EDUCATION: for fun
and the future, for everyone of every age
