The Community Education
Department in District No. 11 has
initiated the project to meet the
expressed needs of Anoka-Hennepin
area families.

Parents and educators are
discovering that a child's first years
are very important to his or her
overall development. As a childs first
teacher, parents play an extremely
important role in their child's
development. PAT helps parents
understand their child's development
stages and provides resources for
parents. to assist in their child's
physical, mental, emotional and
social growth. By keeping parents
involved as a teacher, PAT helps
foster positive parent/child
relationships in the family and helps
to build feelings of confidence,
support, motivation and self worth.

At PAT, parents and children learn
together through active
participation. The program involves
four phases: 1) Orientation Phase 2)
Play Phase 3) Observation Phase and
4) Discussion Group Phase.

If you would like to learn more
about Project PAT, please call
L.O.Jacob Community School at
755-1850.

HALLOWEEN CELEBRATION
HELD
The second annual Halloween
Celebration was held at Ramsey
School on October 31st. Over 750
people participated in the festivities
which included a spookhouse,
costume contest, bake sale, pie-
eating contest, a variety of other
games and activities for parents and
their children.

Another part of the evening was a
Teen Dance at the Ramsey Municipal
Center featuring live music,
refreshments and door prizes.

The evening was planned and
organized by a hard.. working
committee of people representing
various organizations in Ramsey such
as the Lions, Jaycees, Jaycee
Women, 4-H Clubs, Community
School Advisory Council, Scouting
organizations and other individual
volunteers. The committee was
headed again this year by Karol
Andreasen.

Mrs. Andreasen and the entire
Halloween Committee would like to
thank all the merchants and
businesses in Ramsey whose
contributions helped make the event
a tremendous success. Cash
donations from many businesses
helped to defer the cost of the
evenings activities. The event is
planned not as a fund raising activity,
but simply as a chance for people to
celebrate Halloween with their
families and their community.

JAYCEE WOMEN UPDATE

This fall has been a busy time for
the Ramsey Jaycee Women. In
September we held Ramsey's second
Red Cross Bloodmobile at City Hall.
Thanks to you, the citizens of
Ramsey, it was a ~uccess. Also in
September we were selling candy for
the Kidney Foundation. We still have
some left, if you would like some
Tootsie Treats.
In October we held a grocery raffle
for a $50 certificate at Bob's. The
lucky winner was Bruce Roggatz.
Congratulations Bruce!

We also donated some items to a
shelter for battered women in Anoka
County. They are still in need of
linens, toys, and ladies and childrens
clothing. Please let us know if you
have something you would like to
donate.

While doing these things we were
all busy making items for our first
Christmas Boutique, Bake and Plant
Sale held November 8th. We were
very pleased with the number of
people who came out to see what we
had.

Up-coming events: Cystic Fibrosis
Bowl-a-thon at Super Bowl,
November 23, Poison Prevention
Program at Ramsey School in
February, Babysitting Clinic in the
spring- .

Goals: We have made no
commitment for our funds, but we do
have a couple of ideas. One is
landscaping or playground
equipment at Titetud Park. The other
is to purchase a "Recess-a- Baby" for
the CPR classes put on by the
Ramsey Police Department.
Needless to say, neither one will be
possible without your continued
support of our projects. If you have
suggestions of things you would like
to see done in or for Ramsey, please
let us know.

Weare small in number - only 11
-and can use more interested, caring
women in Ramsey to help. If you are
concerned about your community,
your children, other children, making
new friends, please check us out. We
meet the 2nd Thursday of each month
at the Ramsey Municipal Building
(City Hall) at 7 p.m. Please come to a
meeting or for further information
call Sylvia Gamec, 421-7615 or
Sharon Grahs, 427-4262.
WOMEN INVOLVED
