~

Please Recycle
Cardboard
and Boxboard!

Corrugated cardboard is
made with three layers of brown kraft
paper glued together. The center
layer is fluted (wavy) and gives the
corrugated cardboard strength. Box-
board is the material used for cereal,
cal(e, cracl(er and chip boxes.
Trying to figure out which
boxes from the kitchen can be re-
cycled can be confusing, especially
since certain types should not be
included with your recyclables. A
quick tip: if the product can be stored
in the cupboard it's recyclable. If it
goes in the fridge, freezer or micro-
wave it shouldn't be recycled. Prepa-
ration is simple: keep it clean and dry,
remove tape, rigid foam, wood, and
large staples, flatten and put in the
recycling cart.
Recycling cardboard and
boxboard not only helps save trees,
it also uses less energy than process-
ing virgin wood into paper. In fact,
up to 65% less energy is required to
make new paper from recycled paper
than from virgin wood. Corrugated
cardboard can be recycled into new
corrugated cardboard, boxboard,
puzzles, games and items such as
tablet bacl(ing.
If you have any general
questions about Ramsey's recycling
program, please contact Chris An-
derson at 763-433-9905 or visit the
website at www.ci.ramsey.mn.us and
click on the recycling tab. If you
have questions about whether a spe-
cific product is accepted for curbside
collection, please contact ACE Solid
Waste at 763-427-3110 or by email at
s ervi ce@acesolidwaste. com.

Public Notice

Wooden Lath Available
at the Public Works Facility
for EastmentjCurbline Staking

The curbline staking program is to reduce
the amount of damage caused by snowplows
contacting the easement (curbline) early in the
snow plowing season, when most of the sod
damage occurs. The city will provide wooden
lath for homeowners to install along the ease-
ment. The lath should be spaced every twenty
to thirty feet along the easement to help plow
drivers identify the edge of the road early in the
season. The lath will eventually breal( off, how-
ever, by that time it will have served its purpose in establishing the curb line.
Please remember the Boulevard Staking Policy prohibits the use of
metal fence posts and other non-breakaway material in the public right of way.
City staff will remove materials that pose a threat to public safety or interfere
with maintenance operations. Small fiberglass poles and aluminum poles with
reflectors may also be used, but will be the responsibility of the homeowner to
maintain.
In the past, some residents have used metal fence posts to mark the
edge of the road and this causes several problems. There is the danger ofstrik-
ing a buried utility line when installing metal posts into the easement. Metal
posts also present a danger to other motorists if they were to slide into one of
these posts with a car or snowmobile. Lastly, the posts prove to be a hindrance
to snow removal crews when pushing snow bacl( to provide room for visibility
or additional snow storage space.
Residents will be asked to fill out a form that will include their name
and address when picking up their wooden lath. There will be a limit of six lath
per household. The stakes are available at the Public Works facility located at
14100 Jaspar Street during regular business hours.
For further information please call the Public Works Secretary at 763-
433-9820.

All Businesses Must
Register with the City

All businesses operating in the city of Ramsey must apply for a Busi-
ness Registration Certificate (BRC) annually. The purpose of the BRC is to
update critical business ownership and emergency contact information in the
city's business database. Renewals are sent out in November and processed in
December. Business Registration applications can be found on the city web site
at www.ci.ramsey.mn.us/licensing.asp. For more information, call Franny at
763-427-4452.

6

www.ci.ramsey.mn.us
