EDAM 2007 Winter Conference

Minneapolis
Airport
Marriott
2020
American
Blvd.
Bloomington,
MN 55425

: ap ~""Add Event to
"vent ~ Even! easke!
~Regist:erfor
~Event NO"W

EDAM's 2007 Winter Conference:
Driving Development Into the Future
irport Marriott, Bloomington, Minnesota

o pay by check or to see more information about the confernce, including
peaker biographies and hotel info, download a pdf of the registration
rochure.

On behalf of the EDAM Board of Directors and the Education Committee, I invite you to attend the upcoming EDAM
Winter Conference scheduled for Jan. 18 and 19 at the Airport Marriott in Bloomington.

Transportation and transportation-related issues surround us as economic development professionals each and
every day. It is vital to the success of our work, yet it is sometimes ignored because it is such a large issue and
difficult to get our hands around and determine how we can have an impact on the issue.

The Education Committee has developed this conference to help us better understand transit and transit-oriented
development. In partnership with Hennepin County, national speaker Alan Hoffman will share thoughts on innovative
ideas for creating regionally effective transit networks and the development along those transit corridors.

These transit networks can take many different forms, from rail lines to local and regional bus lines. In the past
several years we have seen the success of light rail connecting Minneapolis to Bloomington and the development
spurred by the creation of funding for the Northstar Corridor rail line. With the upcoming legislative session we
expect to hear more discussions about the expansion of both commuter rail lines and light rail lines serving multiple
areas of the State. As transportation continues to be an issue in our state, we will also hear more discussion about
other transportation opportunities outside of the metro area.

As these discussions continue, we as economic development professionals need to have a plan to move fOlWard
and capitalize on the development opportunities in our communities.

We hope this conference will help you develop ideas on how your community can benefit from rail access and begin
planning for future opportunities. We look fOlWard to seeing you in January!

Sincerely, Rebecca Kurtz
EDAM President

Thursday, Jan. 18, 2007 · Schedule

Friday, Jan. 19, 2007 · Schedule

9 to 10 a.m.
Committee meetings

8:30 to 9:15 a.m.
Session Two: Northstar Corridor Major Impetus for
Development

17
