6

SNOWPLOWING

CHILD FINGERPRINTING
AVAILABLE By APPOINTMENT

According to the National Incidence Studies of Missing,
Abducted, Runaway, and Thrown Away Children (October
2002), there are nearly 800,000 children reported missing each
year (more than 2,000 per day). 58,200 children are abducted
by non-family members while 115 children are the victims of
the most serious, most long-term abductions.
Precautionary measures include keeping a complete
description of your child, taking color photographs every six
months, l(eeping copies of your child's fingerprints, a sample
of DNA, and maintaining medical records and dental charts.
The Ramsey Police Department will be fingerprinting
Ramsey children by APPOINTMENT ONLY on Monday,
December 22nd from 9:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. at the police
department. We use CompuKid, a digital fingerprinting and
camera system. Parents receive a colored copy of their child's
information as well as a disl( that can be updated as necessary.
Infants and children under two can be photographed only,
fingerprints can be added at a later date. To schedule an
appointment, call the Ramsey Police Department at (763)427-
6812.

MAILBOX
REPLACEMENT POLICY

Mailboxes installed and maintained to City U.S. Post
Office regulations which are damaged as a result of direct
contact by City snow removal equipment will be temporarily
repaired within 48 hours of receiving notification of such
damage. If the mailbox cannot be temporarily repaired, a
portable mailbox will be set in place so mail service will be
continued. The City will replace the damaged mailbox structure
the following spring with a standard No. 1 black, white, or silver
mailbox mounted on 4-by 4-inch treated post.
Residents whose mailboxes are lmocked down as a
result of direct contact by City snow removal equipment may
request $75 allowances, if they so choose, to replace the mailbox
structures themselves, relieving the City of any further
obligation. In such cases, the City will provide portable,
temporary mailboxes until the following spring.
Mailboxes, which are not installed to City and u.s.
Post Office regulations or are damaged due to snow deposited
from plows (versus being hit by City snow removal equipment),
will not be replaced. The City is not responsible for damage to
media or paper boxes and will not repair them.

The winter season is fast approaching and we
alllmow what that means - Snowplowing! The Public
Works Department is responsible for clearing all city
streets and municipal parking lots. This equates to over
300 lane miles of roads. The Public Works Department
makes every attempt to avoid damage, but because of
the conditions encountered during plowing and the size
of the equipment used, it is sometimes difficult to judge
where the edge of the pavement ends, and where the
grass begins.
The City retains an easement on the edge of
the road for snow storage purposes. When sod is
damaged due to plowing in this easement it will be
repaired, in the spring, with black dirt and grass seed.
Irrigation systems, landscaping and plant materials
placed in the City's easement will not be repaired and
are the responsibility of the homeowner.
Several things can be done to diminish the
chance of damage to the easement near your home.

1) Place wooden lath every 20 to 30 feet along
the boulevard to marl( the road edge.
2) Pay special attention when staking corners and
radiuses, as they are difficult to judge after a
snowfall
3) Checl( the condition of your mailbox. Is the
main post rotted? Is the box itself firmly
secured to the post? Make repairs now before
the weather turns cold and the ground is frozen.

If you have any questions about snowplowing,
please call Ramsey Public Worl(s at (612) 427-8254.

ICE RINK SCHEDULE

AND CLOSING GUIDELINES

Ice rinl(s at Ramsey Elementary School (15100
Nowthen Boulevard N.W.) and Central Park (7925
161 st Avenue N.
