In 2001, 1,579 child occupants ages 14
and under died in motor vehicle crashes, and in
2002 an estimated 227,000 were injured. Even if
you're a careful driver, you can't control other
drivers' behavior. However, you can greatly
reduce the risk that your children will be seriously
injured or killed by having them properly placed in
a child passenger restraint.
Some times it tal(es a consequence to
change behaviors. The Anoka County Chapter
of Minnesota Safe Kids is sponsoring an
enforcement wave during the month of February
to help increase the use of child safety seats. The
coalition is worl(ing with each law enforcement
agency in the county to educate officers on child
passenger safety and to help raise awareness of
possible violations of the law. A child not properly
restrained in a vehicle allows an officer to pull
over a vehicle. This gives the officer the
opportunity to access the situation and possibly
issue a ticl(et to the driver of the vehicle.
In addition to working with the law
enforcement agencies, the coalition also offers
free education and car seat checks to parents.
Each session tal(es approximately YS hour and you
must have an appointment. To schedule your
appointment, contact the law enforcement agency
in your area.

BULK MAILING OF THE
CITY NEWSLETTER

It is at the discretion of your Post Office
to have the newsletter delivered in a timely
manner.

One little smile can fill the room with sunshine. - Anonymous
