Public Notice

Ramsey Police
Detention Facility

Within the new Ramsey Municipal Center, detention facility space was
constructed and will soon be operational. The facility will be used for the tempo-
rary detention of those tal(en into custody by Ramsey patrol officers and provide
for increased efficiency in police operations. Following the strict guidelines of the
Minnesota Department of Corrections, the facility ensures the safety of our officers
as well as those in custody. There are three holding cells, interview room, booking
station, shower room and an observation area. There is a secure "sally-port" or ga-
rage area, allowing officers to drive in, close the door, safely remove suspects from
their squad cars and transport them into the facility.
Once inside the detention facility, officers are able to perform breath test-
ing, conduct interviews, and safely hold suspects that are being transported to
other facilities. Those suspected ofDWI will be tested with the department's new
"Intoxilyzer". Officers will no longer be required to transport DWI suspects to the
Anoka County Jail for testing, which can often take an officer off the street for
several hours. This new facility will allow officers to return to the street for regular
patrol duty more quickly following an arrest. Currently, those being detained in the
facility will be held no more than four hours; however the facility was constructed
to allow for increased holding times in the future. If you have questions regarding
the new detention facility operation at the new Ramsey Municipal Center, please
contact the Police Department at 763-427-6812.

Community News

County Announces
Sesquicentennial Year

The Anoka County Board of Commissioners formally opened
Anoka County's Sesquicentennial year on Tuesday, January 9,2007.
A brief ceremony preceded the regularly scheduled County Board
Meeting at the Anoka County Government Center.
