Fire Chief Kapler replied there are some things that can be repaired, and some that cannot. The
truck has a steel water tank that is becoming corroded and will fail eventually. With new trucks
they are putting in polyurethane to avoid these issues. The truck would need a serious wiring
overhaul. The city mechanic spends a substantial amount of time working on wiring issues. The
engine under the hood is solid.
Assistant Chief Lemm indicated there are issues with the bottom of the compartment boxes that
are starting to rust through and repairs have been done to keep the hose inside the truck.
Motion by Councilmember Elvig, seconded by Councilmember Look, to recommend that the
City Council accept the fire engine specifications and authorize staff to solicit bids.
Motion carried.
