Chair Cook asked if a percentage of developed acres was needed for open space. Mr. Boos
stated one outcome could be to cluster homes and protect open space. I-Ie said the findings of the
Comprehensive Plan could be used to develop momentum for the Trout Brook Corridor. The
Park Commission would need to work with the Planning Commission and the City Council on
how land use may occur.

Mr. Boos said it is important for the Commission to be involved with road projects and indicated
the importance of boulevard trees to the character of the community and recommended they be
added to the Comprehensive Plan.

Case #3: Identify Ramsey Resident Article for June

Mr. Boos stated in keeping with the Park and Recreation Commission's desire to inform residents
regarding park issues, a topic should be selected for the next issue of the Ramsey Resident. He
suggested the Parks Capital Improvement Plan be explained in the upcoming issue.

Commissioner LaMere suggested City Parks be hi-lighted indicating their location and facilities
available at each site. Mr. Boos indicated the Park map calls attention to their locations and
stated the maps are available at City Hall for $3.00. A large version of the map is posted in
Council Chambers.

The consensus of the Commission was that a CIP article acknowledging June's meeting at Central
Park will work for the Ramsey Resident article.

Case #4: Directional Signage

Mr. Boos indicated $1,000 is available in the budget for park directional signage. He displayed an
area map and the Park Commission gave input for sign locations.

Commissioner Johns stated the RYAA map is useful as it shows park locations and indicates
facilities at each field.

Mr. Boos suggested Park signs contain the word "Park" with a directional arrow; signs could then
be used at multiple locations. The Commission agreed and stated signs should have white
lettering with a brown background.

Chair Cook inquired if staff contacted the County regarding directional signage along County
Road 116 and indicated the County may be responsible for all signs on county roads.

COMMISSION/STAFF INPUT

A) Note Anoka County Park and Recreation Committee Agenda

B) June Surplus Playground Equipment Award

Park and Recreation Commission/May 14, 1998
Page 3 of 4
