street. She believes this is a safety issue and the Council has to be responsible. She
mentioned speed bumps and added that she did not realize they would be a problem for a
business in the area. She suggested that signage could be placed stating that 149th
Avenue is not a through street and have barricades in certain hours in the a.m. and again
in the p.m. - or signage that allows "local traffic only".

Mark Sterry, 15031 Zeolite Street NW, wondered who would be monitoring the traffic to
make certain that it is only local traffic. He felt that the problem is speeding traffic and
stop signs would take care of that.

Mike Henriksen, 7561 - 149th Lane NW, stated he has lived in his home for 11 years. He
grew up in Coon Rapids and they use stop signs to alleviate traffic problems. He
mentioned that there had been a near fatal accident on Uranimite, 150th and 149th - he
said something really has to be done and stop signs are a cheap way to take care of the
problem. Barriers cannot be placed on every street - but stop signs can be.

Mr. Jankowski pointed out that you could have stop signs in six locations in the area,
however, if you stop people six times, they would still use that same route. People will
continue to speed with stops signs - they will slow to stop and then use the accelerator to
make up time. Speed is decreased due to stop signs but only about 200 feet from the
sign.

A resident stated that when 149th was a dirt road, and the residents asked for a stop sign,
they were told that a stop sign was not warranted in the area.

Dennis Ashland, 15030 Willemite Street NW, wondered if#116 will have stop signs.

Mr. Jankowski responded that it will have four way stops at Ramsey Boulevard and
maybe a stop to allow Armstrong to go through.

Mr. Ashland felt that stop signs will aide in slowing the traffic.

Deb Scheveland, 150th Avenue, felt that people have to be made aware they are speeding.
When the radar board was present, people were aware of how fast they were going and
they definitely slowed down. Stop signs will make people aware and she felt they would
slow down the traffic.

Rick Folkestad, 15011 Willemite Street NW, stated that they asked for stop signs on
150th and Willemite, they were put in but they were put in on the wrong comer and it's
been a problem ever since. The stop signs are on Willemite - if they were put on 150th,
there would not be such a problem. He felt that a couple more stop signs would
definitely help the speeding problem.

Road and Bridge Committee/May 19, 1998
