to investigate a snow sledding possibility and refer this option to the Park Board for their
recommendations to the City Council.

Motion Carded. Voting Yes: Mayor Gamec, Councilmembers Haas Steffen, Beyer, Beahen, and
Zimmerman. Voting No: None.

Councilmember Haas Steffen noted the trail dead-ends at Tom Thumb and residents at 149th are
saying there is no place for kids to ride bikes because there are no shoulders on the road. She
asked why this area did not have parks planned in the early 1970s and if a park could be added.
She noted the property on Kangaroo that is a little over an acre and has a picnic table furnished
by a resident. She suggested the park staff or Park and Recreation Commission be asked to
address whether these small neighborhood parks should be connected to a trail or include park
chairs.

Mayor Gamec stated the Park and Recreation Commission did review that issue and prepared a
priority list of when they should be addressed.

Councilmember Haas Steffen noted the close location of a trail to this propertY and suggested
that be addressed.

Councilmember Beyer stated that connection to trails was addressed but met with major
opposition by residents because the pathway to the trail went between residential properties and
the City could not get the easements.

Councilmember Haas Steffen stated that residents have contacted her about this.

Mayor Gamec noted that the City has asked residents to work as a neighborhood group and there
are some matching funds available from the charitable gambling fund.

Case #11:

Consider Appointment of Mayor's Recommendation for Community Center
Task Force

Mayor Gamec recommended that the following be appointed to a Community Center Task
Force: Councilmember Haas Steffen; Michael Rolfe, Ramsey Park and Recreation
Commissioner; Tom LaMere, Ramsey Park and Recreation Commissioner; Lon Helgemoe,
Northland Security Bank; George Steiner, resident; and Chris Dempsey, resident. Mayor Gamec
recommended such a task force include representation t~om a variety of interests and
demographics throughout the community with Councilmember Haas Steffen chairing the
meetings. He stated that he would like seven members but this will give a start to this Task
Force.

Motion by Councilmember Beyer and seconded by Councilmember Beahen to ratify the Mayor's
recommendations for appointment to the Ramsey Community Center Task Force as indicated
above.

City Council/June 9, 1998
