Voting No: None. <br /> <br />2) Recommend Authorization to Hire Deborah Hanson as Accounting Clerk <br /> <br />Ms. Waite Smith reported that with the appointment of Linda Mayer to the Senior <br />Accountant position, the Accounting Clerk position opened. Following the interviewing <br />process, it is recommended that the position be offered to Deborah Hanson. <br /> <br />Motion by Councilmember Beyer and seconded by Councilmember Beahen to authorize <br />hiring Deborah Hanson as full-time Accounting Clerk, effective September 28, 1998, at <br />an annual salary of $26,076, contingent on successful completion of checks for <br />references, criminal history and driving record, and a physical examination. <br /> <br />Motion carried. Voting No: None. <br /> <br />3) Recommend Authorization to Hire Joan Smith as Finance Clerk <br /> <br />Ms. Waite Smith reported that Shelly Haben, the Finance Clerk is not returning to work <br />following her parenting leave. One of the applicants for the Accounting Clerk position <br />preferred part-time work and was invited to interview for the Finance Clerk opening. The <br />Personnel Committee is recommending Joan Smith be hired as the half-time Finance <br />Clerk. <br /> <br />Motion by Councilmember Beyer and seconded by Councilmember Haas Steffen to <br />authorize hiring Joan Smith as half-time Finance Clerk, effective immediately, at an <br />annualized salary of $23,370 ($11.24 per hour), contingent on successful completion of <br />checks for references, criminal history and driving record, and a physical examination. <br /> <br />Motion carried. Voting No: None. <br /> <br />4) Authorize Activities to Replace Retiring Streets Supervisor <br /> <br />Ms. Waite Smith requested authorization to replace Merle Mevissen who is retiring and <br />who will be through with City service on October 16. However, he will be a City <br />employee until the end of the year. We are looking at what type of structure is necessary <br />for the department - what type of expertise is needed. We will post internally and then <br />externally if necessary. <br /> <br />Motion by Councilmember Beyer and seconded by Councilmember Beahen to authorize <br />staff to begin the process of replacing the retiring Public Works Streets Supervisor, <br />beginning with an internal posting and proceeding to an external posting if needed, and <br /> <br />City Council/September 22, 1998 <br /> Page 15 of 19 <br /> <br /> <br />
