-50- w,~;q,Vo(e E~{ r,mmem ~.1 nne~o~a,o r~ · I I Open Space Public Education Project Request for Proposals Proposals Due: - February 17, 2003 Description of Assistance Available The Minnesota League of Conservation Voters Education Fund (MNLCV Education Fund) has technical assistance available to help communities prepare communications materials to educate and activate Minnesota citizens around open space protection at the local level. MNLCV Education Fund has designed high-quality, four-color communication materials that can be tailored to highlight natural areas, protection strategies and contact information for different local projects. This includes printed materials and website content. A copy of printed materials developed for Dakota County is included for your review. Website material can also be viewed online at: www.VoteEnvironmentMinnesota.org. We are currently accepting proposals from open space advocates who could benefit from the development and distribution of similar communications pieces. Eligible applicants include local activists, nonprofit organizations, government agencies and/or partnerships. Background The mission of MNLCV Education Fund is to strengthen the capacity of the environmental movement to mobilize citizens as informed voters and advocates for sound environmental policies. Our approach encourages collaboration and coalition building using opinion research, new communications technologies, leadership training, and public education to promote responsible governance on environmental issues. Many Minnesota communities are facing threats to their quality of life due to rapid growth. While local activists are working to protect key open and green spaces, they do not always have the resources needed to produce the high quality education materials that the public demands. The goal of our Open Space Public Education Project is to effectively utilize MNLcv Education Fund's communications expertise by partnering with local open space protection groups to create and distribute high quality materials.
