Councilmember Kurak recommended that well #7 be included also. <br /> <br />Councilmember Pearson inquired as to how long it takes from the time the study starts to the <br />time a well can be dug. <br /> <br />Mr. Kapler explained that with the property acquisition it could take six months to a year. He <br />also noted that the current pump house could accommodate another well. <br /> <br />Councilmember Strommen inquired if there is an issue with Met Council with wastewater and <br />the capacity the City has with the development of the Town Center. <br /> <br />City Administrator Norman explained that City staff met with the environmental staff of the Met <br />Council last fall and after explaining the City's future plans, the discussion went from when they <br />are going to fill the pipes to the City might be sending too much waste. Since that time, staff has <br />met with members of the Met Council in regards to the capacity issue and a couple of options <br />have been discussed to provide for the needed capacity. <br /> <br />Councilmember Elvig inquired if it was true that the City is currently using 1/3 of the capacity. <br /> <br />City Administrator Norman replied that that was correct. <br /> <br />Councilmember Strommen stated that studies have indicated that the Town Center project will <br />take up most of the remaining capacity. <br /> <br />City Administrator Norman replied that that was correct, which is why they have begun <br />discussions with the Met Council. <br /> <br />Councilmember Kurak stated that she wants to make sure that the City stays ahead of the issue <br />because they were told previously that if the City did not step forward indicating that they were <br />going to need more capacity in the future they will not get it. <br /> <br />City Administrator Norman replied that staff intends to "stay on top" of the issue. <br /> <br />Councilmember Cook inquired if there were other alternatives for their own sewer possibilities <br />other than the Met Council. <br /> <br />City Administrator Norman replied that Elk River and St. Francis have their own independent <br />sewer plant and yes, there are some options, but he did not think that there had been any studies <br />done on that issue. <br /> <br />Councilmember Strommen noted that the Environmental Policy Task Force had a very <br />interesting presentation on other community waste water systems. <br /> <br />Mayor Gamec inquired if Riverdale Drive was constructed with MSA funds. <br /> <br />City Council Work Session/April 29, 2003 <br /> Page 3 of 15 <br /> <br />-4'/- <br /> <br /> <br />
