Community News

~

Habitat for Humanity
Ramsey Build Supported by Community Members

A mid-April, crisp and
sunny spring morning was the
perfect climate to mark many
firsts. The morning marked
the first groundbreaking in
Ramsey, as well as the largest
Twin Cities Habitat for Human-
ity (TCHFH) build in Anoka
County. It also marked the
launch of a new way to engage
the community. Community
members in the Northwest
metro have joined together with
Twin Cities Habitat to form the
Habitat Partnership of North-
west Anoka County (HPAC).
The role of this coalition will
not only prove essential in boosting
local area awareness, but also in at-
tracting new support and a fresh body
of volunteers. Throughout the first
year of the three year, 24-home build,
HPAC will focus their efforts on
community engagement, fundraising
and providing the volunteers for four
weeks this summer.
The coalition will be led by
Larry Culp, a member of the Lord of
Life Lutheran congregation, a retired
IBM manager, and long-time TCHFH
volunteer.
"At the end of the day, Habi-

Members of the Habitat partnership of Northwest
Anoka County (HPAC). Incorporating stakeholders from
a variety of avenues, HPAC will play
a significant role in building up sup-
port and engagement surrounding the

Ramsey build. The coalition
embraces many local players,
including faith-based groups,
civic associations, businesses
and academic institutions.
"Northwest Anoka County
residents are banding together
to support Habitat's mission
in their community. They are
working together to facilitate
community engagement, fund-
raise, coordinate volunteers
and support Habitat home-
buyer families. Through this,
they are strengthening commu-
nity, which is what Habitat is about,"
said Jill Kilibarda, Volunteer Services
Manager for TCHFH.
Coalition members include
representatives from: Lord of Life
Lutheran Church, Constance Evan-
gelical Free Church, BridgeLink,
Anoka County Technical College and
citizens of Northwest Anoka County.
Northwest metro residents
interested in getting involved with
HPAC, please contact Karl Batalden
at karl. batalden@tchabitat.org.

Contributed by Shelly Darnall, Twin
Cities Habitat for Humanity

Free Dollars Into Sense Classes

Anoka County Extension Staff and Dollar Works Volunteers will present Free Dollars Into Sense classes on July
17 and August 21 at 10:00 am at the Bunl(er Hills Activities Center, 550 Bunker Lal(e Blvd, Andover.
