Absent: CouncilmemberHaas Steffen. <br /> <br />Case #7: Charter Amendment <br /> <br />City Attorney Goodrich stated that, upon request by the Council, he further investigated the <br />possibility of sending a letter from Council to the residents informing them regarding the Charter <br />amendment issues. He has determined that there is no justification - thus the City cannot expend <br />funds for this. Council is authorized only as specified which is to notify the public of an election <br />via the City's official newspaper. <br /> <br />No action was taken by Council. <br /> <br />Case #8: Report from Finance Committee <br /> <br />1) Receive Five-Year Parks Capital Improvements Program <br /> <br />City Administrator Schroeder reported that the Finance Committee had reviewed a five-year plan <br />for park improvements and recommended that Council approve the 1998 request for now and <br />that the others would be reviewed again somewhat later. <br /> <br />Motion by Councilmember Beahen and seconded by Councilmember Zimmerman to approve the <br />1998 Parks Capital Improvements Program. <br /> <br />Motion carried. Voting Yes: Mayor Gamec, Councilmembers Beahen, Zimmerman and Beyer. <br />Voting No: None. Absent: Councilmember Haas Steffen <br /> <br />Case #9: Report from Personnel Committee <br /> <br />1) Receive Recommendation to Appoint Christopher Riley to the Economic <br /> Development Commission <br /> <br />Motion by Councilmember Beyer and seconded by Councilmember Beahen to appoint <br />Christopher Riley to the Economic Development Commission to complete an uncompleted term <br />that expires January 31, 1998. At that time, he will be eligible for reappointment to two, four- <br />year terms on the Commission. <br /> <br />Motion carried. Voting Yes: Mayor Gamec, Councilmembers Beyer, Beahen and Zimmerman. <br />Voting No: None. Absent: Councilmember Haas Steffen. <br /> <br />2) Volunteer Firefighter Appointments <br /> <br />Motion by Councilmember Beahen and seconded by Councilmember Beyer to authorize staff to <br />hire Brian Abbott, Jason LaCrosse and Carey Schiferli as Volunteer Firefighters, contingent on <br />passing the required physical examination, physical agility test, driver's license check and <br />background check. <br /> <br />City Council/August 26, 1997 <br /> Page 9 of 18 <br /> <br /> <br />
