<br />Subdivision 1. All signs permitted by this Section in excess of sixteen (16) square <br />feet shall be painted, lettered, or faced to the workmanship standards and best commercial <br />practices of companies normally engaged in the business of providing commercial signs, using <br />materials designed and marketed specifically for use on outdoor signs. <br /> <br />Subd..2. All signs shall be located in such a way that they maintain horizontal and <br />vertical clearance of all electrical power lines and communication lines. <br /> <br />Subd.4. All signs and their supporting structures shall maintain clearance and non- <br />interference with all surface and underground facilities and conduits for water, sewage, gas, <br />electricity, or communications equipment or lines. In addition, the placement of all signs and their <br />supporting structures shall not interfere with natural or artificial drainage or surface or <br />underground water. <br /> <br />Subd. 5. All signs, except those attached flat against the, wall of a building shall be <br />constructed to withstand minimum wind loads as follows: <br /> <br />a. Solid Signs. Thirty (30) pounds per square foot per face of the sign. <br /> <br />b. Open Signs. Thirty-six (36) pounds per square foot of the total face area of <br />the letters' and other sign surfaces, or ten (10) pounds per square foot of the <br />gross surface area of the sign, whichever is greater. <br /> <br />9.12.14 <br /> <br />Non-conforming Signs <br /> <br />Subdivision 1. Any permanent type sign lawfully existing prior to the adoption of <br />this Section that does not meet the standards of this Section shall be considered legal non- <br />conforming and shall be allowed to continue in use. Other than for change of copy or normal <br />maintenance, a legal non-conforming s~g:tlsl1alllose the designation "legal non-conforming" if-tfle <br />sign is discontinued for 0. period of ~~;._C6'~) days, explll1ded, relocated, repluced, ultered, or <br />dmllaged by more than fifty percent (50%) of the sign murket ~,'ulue.
