<br />Off-Premise Sign- a commercial speech sign which directs the attention of the <br />public to a business, activity conducted, or product sold or offered at a location not on the same <br />premises where such a sign is located. <br />Parcel- An individual lot or tract of land. <br /> <br />Permanent Sign - Any sign which is intended to remain on the property and/or <br />business year-round, until replacement or re-Iocation causes it to be removed. <br /> <br />Portable Sign -any sign which is manifestly designed to be transported, <br />including by trailer or on its own wheels, even though the wheels of such sign may be removed <br />and the remaining chassis or support is converted to another sign or attached temporarily or <br />permanently to the ground since this characteristic is based on the design of such a sign. <br /> <br />Projecting Sign - Any sign, all or any part of which extends beyond the surface <br />of the building or wall by more than sixteen (16) inches. <br /> <br />Public Event - Any event that is authorized by the City, whether funded in part, <br />total or not at all by the City. <br /> <br />Pylon Sign- any freestanding sign which has its supportive structures anchored in <br />the ground and which has a sign face elevated above ground level by poles or beams and Vlrith the <br />areas below the sign face open. <br /> <br />Roof Sign - Any sign erected upon the roof of a structure to which it is affixed. <br /> <br />Roofline - The top line of the coping; or, when the building has a pitched roof, as <br />the intersection of the outside wall with the roof. <br /> <br />Sign - Any letter, word or symbol, device, poster, picture, statuary, reading <br />matter, or representation in the nature of an advertisement, announcement, message or visual <br />communication, whether painted, posted, printed, affixed or constructed, which is displayed <br />outdoors for informational or communicative purposes. <br /> <br />Sign Area - That area within the marginal lines of the surface which bears the <br />advertisement, or in the case of messages, figures or symbols attached directly to any part of a <br />building, that area which is included in the smallest geometric shape which can be made to <br />circumscribe the message, figure or symbol displayed thereon. The stipulated maximum sign <br />area for a free standing or ground sign refers to a single facing. <br /> <br />Street Frontage - The proximity of a parcel of land to one (1) or more streets. <br />An interior lot has one (1) street frontage and a comer lot has two (2) such frontages. <br /> <br />Temporary Sign - A sign which is erected or displayed for a limited period of <br />time and not affixed to a structure. <br /> <br />72 <br />
