Citizen Input

Mr. Mark Hamel, Life Fitness/Brunswick Corporation, stated they have some concerns
about what is coming in there.

Mr. Len Stachowski, 14261 Xenon St. NW, asked if this was going to be a right-inJright-
out at the intersection.

City Engineer Jankowski stated the County was putting everyone on notice that sometime
in the future there will be raised medians with only right-inJright-out turns on Sunfish
Lake and Bunker Lake Boulevards.

Mr. Stachowski stated he had concerns because of the proposed traffic control changes.
Mr. Stachowski stated he would be opposed to any retail development on this comer
because of possible vacant buildings because of the future access impossibilities. He
stated if there were not any access restrictions he would not be opposed to any retail
development.

Associate Planner DaInes stated she had a long extended conversation with the manager
of Casey's regarding this and the retail difficulties and comers with right-in/right-out
only access restrictions.

Chairperson Nixt thought they needed to consider signalization and a traffic control .
intersection at this comer.

Commissioner Van Scoy indicated he seconded those concerns. . He wondered if the
applicant will be able to populate this once in there and they have the right-in/right-out
access.

Mr. Wayman stated until they have approval for this land use change, it is hard to get
people to look at it. He did not think there was any other alternative to this land but if
there is something else they can do to eliminate the right-inJright-out access that would be
helpful.

Associate Planner DaInes stated the reason they are requiring the right-in/right-out now is
because it is three years away; this is a way to put everyone on alert about the future
traffic control changes and the change in access has been known to reduce accidents.

The Commission discussed different areas with retail businesses that have had right-
in/right-out only access.

Mr. Stachowski wondered if this happens are they going to ask ACE Solid Waste to have
to do U-Turns to access their site because there will not be any stop light in between the
railroad tracks and the stop light and trying to maneuver those vehicles will be difficult.

-133-
