Absent: Councilmembers Jeffrey and Strommen. <br /> <br />Mr. Bettinger stated that the residents of Bums Township have been very supportive and on <br />October 9,2007, Nowthen was chosen as their City name. <br /> <br />Case #1: <br /> <br />Adopt Ordinance to Ban Non-Licensed Mixed Martial Arts in the City of <br />Ramsey: <br /> <br />Police Chief Way stated that on October 9, 2007, the City Council introduced an ordinance to <br />ban non-licensed mixed martial arts in the City. <br /> <br />Councilmember Elvig stated that he felt the most important aspect of this ordinance is that it <br />bans non-sanctioned events as opposed to licensed events. <br /> <br />Motion by Councilmember Elvig, seconded by Councilmember Dehen, to adopt Ordinance #07- <br />17 amending Chapter 5 of the City Code, by adding Section 5.20 Mixed Martial Arts ~ to ban the <br />activity of a non-licensed type of this event within the City of Ramsey. <br /> <br />A roll call vote was performed by the Recording Secretary: <br /> <br />Mayor Gamec: aye <br />Councilmember Dehen: aye <br />Councilmember Elvig: aye <br />Councilmember Look: aye <br />Councilmember Olson: aye <br /> <br />Councilmember Jeffrey: absent <br />Councilmember Strommen: absent <br /> <br />Motion carried. <br /> <br />Case #2: <br /> <br />Request for a Home Occupation Permit; Case of Mary Toso <br /> <br />Associate Planner Geisler stated that the City has received an application from Mary Toso to <br />operate a bed and breakfast in her home at 7822 - 142nd Avenue NW. She stated that the second <br />floor of the home has two bedrooms and a sitting area, which would be used by guests. The <br />kitchen and dining areas are on the first floor and would be open to guests. The bed and <br />breakfast can accommodate a maximum of four guests at a time and there will be no outside <br />employees. She stated that the Planning Commission held a public hearing at their October 4, <br />2007 meeting and two residents spoke in support of the request. She stated that the Planning <br />Commission has recommended approval, including permission for the applicant to post a sign at <br />the end of her driveway. <br /> <br />Ms. Toso stated that there are many things that still need to happen before she can open her <br />doors for business, but this is the first step. <br /> <br />City Council /October 23, 2007 <br />Page 7 of 21 <br />
